A few members went on an afternoon whale watching expedition aboard the J MOII from the Yacht Club yesterday to soak up some sun and look for whales. Captain Chris had seen some right whales near the entrance to Ambrose channel where he was towing a barge into NewYork Harbor and made the call to have us come out and have a look, thanks Chris!
We were lucky enough to come across a pod of humpback whales in the middle of the Channel off of Brooklyn’s Coney Island. We had some great views of black tipped Gannets gliding in pairs and saw some of them plunging into the water diving for herring probably chased to the water’s surface by the whales. We took a video (link below) to give you a sense of what we were seeing. The size of these whales must have been thirty feet or more in length.

It was a beautiful Fall Weekend when 2o plus members went yo Keyport for the Keyport Annual Street Festival.

Boats went into the water today. Started at 5am, finished at 11.
Winds started picking up to about 25knots by the end.
